PH22 Play Responsibly: The Limits to Set Before a Session
To play responsibly, decide seven limits before you start: a money budget, a time limit, a fixed stake, a win limit, a loss stop, a rule against borrowing and a break between sessions.
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| PH22 Bankroll Sizing | A bankroll is the fixed amount of money you set aside for gambling and can afford to lose. |
| PH22 Family Exclusion PAGCOR | Under PAGCOR's family exclusion, a spouse, child or parent of someone who needs help with problem gambling can apply to have that person excluded. |
| PH22 Gambler's Fallacy | The gambler's fallacy is the belief that a run of losses makes a win more likely next. |
To play responsibly you decide your limits before the first spin, because limits chosen mid-session are chosen by the mood you are in. Seven limits cover almost everything, and PAGCOR’s reminders back three of them. Start from PAGCOR’s responsible gaming reminders, then set your own figures below.
The peso amounts are illustrative. Replace them with amounts you can lose without touching bills.
7 gambling limits to set first
Set these seven in order, and write them where you can see them. Together they are the responsible gambling tips that matter most.
- Session budget: a peso amount you can lose, for example ₱500.
- Time limit: a stop time, for example 45 minutes, with an alarm.
- Stake: one fixed amount per spin or bet, for example ₱10.
- Win limit: a figure at which you stop while ahead, for example ₱750.
- Loss stop: leave when the session budget is gone, with no top-up.
- No borrowing: never use borrowed money or all of your resources.
- Break: a pause between sessions, for example a day.
Limits 2, 5 and 6 echo PAGCOR’s reminders: set time limits for each gambling session, don’t chase your losses, and never borrow money or use all of your resources for gambling.
Gambling limits on your account
Account tools are the operator’s to describe. Ask its live chat what account limits it can set, and use any it offers on top of your own written limits.
Win limit: when to stop while ahead
A win limit is the limit most players skip, because stopping while ahead feels like leaving money on the table. Decide it before you start so the choice is made with a clear head.
| Session money | Win limit | Stop when balance reaches |
|---|---|---|
| ₱500 | +₱250 | ₱750 |
| ₱1,000 | +₱500 | ₱1,500 |
When you reach the figure, cash out or close the game. A win played back is the same money at risk again, and the bankroll page for sizing a session shows how to keep the next session separate.
The signs to stop
Your limits are the planned exits. Warning signs are the unplanned ones, and PAGCOR’s page lists them.
| Sign on PAGCOR’s page | What to do |
|---|---|
| Spending or betting more than meant | End the session now |
| Gambling longer than planned | Leave at the next stop time |
| Trying again and again to win back losses | Close the game; read the gambler’s fallacy page |
| Borrowing or missed bills | Contact a help centre |
You have hit your budget and feel the next spin is due
Leave. That feeling is the gambler’s fallacy, and your plan was made to override it. Close the game and come back at your next planned session.
When limits are not enough
Sometimes a plan is not enough, and PAGCOR names routes for that. The PAGCOR Online Self-Exclusion Application portal is at www.osea.pagcor.ph, and the National Problem Gambling Helpline lists 0919 170 0788 and (02) 8248 9568.
