PH22 Sports Betting Terms Explained: Slips, Markets, Settlement
Sports betting terms are the words on a bet slip: stake, odds, market, line, leg, void and push.
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| PH22 Odds Meaning Explained | Odds state the price of an outcome: how much you collect per peso staked if it wins. |
| PH22 NBA Parlay Explained | An NBA parlay combines two or more basketball selections, called legs, into one bet. |
| PH22 Vig Meaning Explained | Vig, also called juice, is the margin a book builds into its prices. |
| PH22 Over Under Meaning Explained | Over under means a bet on whether the combined score of both sides finishes above or below a line the book sets. |
Sports betting terms are the short words a bet slip uses: stake, odds, market, line, leg, void and push. If you are 21 or older and about to read a slip for the first time, this page defines each term and shows the arithmetic behind it. A sportsbook is simply the part of a betting site that lists sports events, prices every outcome and settles your bet once the result is final, and every number below is invented and rounded so you can check each sum with a calculator.
The page is the map for four deeper explainers. Start with the odds meaning explainer for prices, then read the over under meaning breakdown, the NBA parlay structure and price and the vig meaning and margin worked examples when you reach those topics.
What a sportsbook is and how it prices an event
A casino game runs on a fixed rule set and a random draw. A sportsbook runs on real events, so it has to publish a price for each outcome and update it as the event approaches. Your job as a reader is to turn that price into three numbers: what you stake, what you collect if you win and the chance the price implies.
Here is a named example with made-up figures. Team A plays Team B, and the book lists Team A to win at decimal 2.50. A ₱100 stake returns ₱250 if Team A wins, of which ₱150 is profit, and ₱0 if Team A loses.
| Piece | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Event | The match or contest | Team A vs Team B |
| Price | States the payout per peso | 2.50 |
| Settlement | Pays or collects at the result | Win: ₱250 back |
The parts of a bet slip
The bet slip is the box that collects your selections before you confirm. Every slip, on every site, carries the same six parts, and a mistake in any one of them changes your result. Read them from top to bottom each time.
- Selection: the outcome you back, such as Team A to win.
- Market: the question the selection answers, such as match winner or total points.
- Odds: the price, in decimal, fractional or American form.
- Stake: the amount you risk, for example ₱100.
- Potential return: stake times decimal odds, so ₱100 at 2.50 shows ₱250.
- Bet type: single, or a combined bet such as a parlay.
The odds on the slip can differ from the odds you clicked if the price moved, so confirm the figure on the slip, not the one you remember. The next section covers what a market is.
Betting markets: the main types
A betting market is one question a book asks about an event. One match can carry dozens of them, and each market has its own price and its own settlement rule. The table lists the types you meet first.
| Market | The question | Settles on |
|---|---|---|
| Moneyline | Who wins? | The winner |
| Handicap | Who wins after a head start? | Result plus the line |
| Total | Over or under a number? | Combined points or goals |
| Parlay | Do all legs win? | Every leg |
| Outright | Who wins the season? | The final result |
The first row is a straight pick on the winner and the second adds a head start. The over under totals line is the simplest market of all: a line of 215.5 points means Over wins at 216 or more points and Under wins at 215 or fewer. A combined bet is priced as in the NBA parlay price example.
Sports betting terms you will meet
Slips and rules pages use a small vocabulary. Learn these ten words and most rules text stops looking technical. Prices are explained in depth in the guide to reading decimal, fractional and American odds.
| Term | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Stake | The money you risk | ₱100 |
| Odds | The price of an outcome | 2.50 |
| Favourite | The outcome priced as likelier | Decimal 1.50 |
| Underdog | The outcome priced as less likely | Decimal 2.50 |
| Line | The number a market is set at | -6.5 |
| Leg | One selection inside a parlay | Team A to win |
| Push | A tie against a whole-number line | Stake refunded |
| Void | A cancelled bet | Stake refunded |
| Settle | Pay or collect on the result | Win or lose |
| Implied probability | The chance the price states | 40% at 2.50 |
How settlement works: win, lose, void, push
Settlement is the moment the book matches your selection to the confirmed result. There are four outcomes, and only two of them move money away from your stake.
- Win: you receive stake times decimal odds. ₱100 at 2.50 pays ₱250.
- Lose: you receive ₱0 and the stake stays with the book.
- Void: the bet is cancelled and ₱100 comes back.
- Push: the result lands exactly on a whole-number line and ₱100 comes back.
The difference between void and push is the cause. A void comes from the rules, for example a player who does not take part, while a push comes from the score tying the line. Each book words these rules in its own market rules text, so read the market rules on screen before you confirm a stake. The book that settles your bet is the one whose rules apply.
How odds, markets and settlement fit together
Think of one slip as a three-step chain. The market decides what has to happen, the odds decide what it pays, and settlement checks what did happen. Skip any step and the bet makes no sense.
Take a basketball example with invented labels. You back Team A at a handicap of -6.5 at decimal 1.90 with a ₱200 stake.
- Market: Team A must win by 7 or more points.
- Odds: 1.90 means a ₱200 stake returns ₱380, a profit of ₱180.
- Settlement: Team A wins 102-95, a margin of 7, so the bet wins and ₱380 is paid.
If the final score were 100-95, the margin of 5 misses the line and the bet loses ₱200.
Bankroll, margin and house edge
Prices carry a built-in margin, which is the betting version of the house edge. In an invented two-way market priced at 1.80 and 2.10, the implied probabilities are 55.56% and 47.62%, which total 103.17%. The extra 3.17 points is the margin, and it is why backing every outcome loses money; the vig explained with fair odds shows how to strip it out. The house edge meaning page explains the same idea for casino games.
Because the margin works against every stake, decide the size of your stake before you look at a price. A written plan to set a bankroll before staking keeps one bad result from forcing the next bet. If betting stops being a choice, the PAGCOR responsible gaming helplines and self-exclusion portal are listed in one place.
You cannot tell why a bet settled the way it did.
Open the bet slip record and the market rules for that market, then compare the final score to the line and the selection. A tie on a whole-number line is a push, and a cancelled selection is a void.
Where PH22 fits
The PH22 lobby menu shows a SPORTS tab and an E-SPORTS tab. Whatever you open there, the bet slip and the market rules on screen are the final word on how that book prices and settles each market. For the rest of the lobby, the PH22 casino lobby overview walks through the menu tabs.
Use this short checklist before every stake.
- Read the market name and the line.
- Read the odds format and convert it if it is unfamiliar.
- Check the stake against your bankroll plan.
- Read the settlement rules for ties and voids.
